BIS Certification for Wrought Aluminium Alloy Bolt & Screw Stock

Most products on the fastener list are finished items you can hold and use straight away. This one is different - it is the raw material. Wrought aluminium alloy bolt and screw stock is the bar or rod, supplied in specific aluminium alloy grades and tempers, that fastener manufacturers feed into their machines to produce aluminium bolts and screws. In effect, it sits one step upstream of the finished fastener, and it earns its own place on the notified list precisely because the quality of the finished aluminium bolt is largely decided by the quality of the stock it was made from.

Aluminium fasteners are valued for being lightweight and naturally corrosion-resistant, used in applications where steel would be too heavy or would rust. But aluminium's strength depends heavily on getting the alloy and heat treatment right, so verifying the stock material to a defined standard gives the whole downstream supply chain a dependable starting point.

Certification of aluminium bolt and screw stock centres on the chemical composition of the alloy - confirming the material genuinely is the grade it is sold as - along with its mechanical properties such as strength and hardness in the relevant temper, and dimensional conformity of the bar or rod. Producers and suppliers placing wrought aluminium alloy bolt and screw stock on the Indian market need this BIS licence in the manufacturer's name. The order's standard exemptions apply here as elsewhere - material made purely for export, stock imported only as a component within a finished product, and small Udyam-registered micro units below specified limits - which are explained on our main fasteners page.
