BIS Certification for Non-Ferrous Sliding Door Bolts (Aldrops)
ISI Mark Under the QCO 2024 - Brass & Non-Ferrous Padlock-Fit Aldrops
Mandatory for Non-Ferrous (Brass) Aldrops
Non-ferrous aldrops - typically made of brass for finish and corrosion resistance - are notified under the Bolts, Nuts and Fasteners (Quality Control) Order, 2024 and need their own ISI Mark before sale or import in India.
Hardware That Has to Look Good and Hold Up
Brass and other non-ferrous aldrops sit in a slightly different market position from their mild steel counterparts - they are often chosen as much for appearance as for raw function, used where the fitting is visible and expected to match other brass hardware on a door, cabinet or gate. But the security job is identical: a sliding bolt with a loop for a padlock. That dual expectation - look good, hold up under repeated padlocking and weather exposure - is exactly what the certification testing for this product is built around.
Because brass and similar alloys behave differently from steel in terms of strength, workability and corrosion resistance, this material variant has its own Indian Standard distinct from the mild steel and stainless steel aldrop standards.
What Gets Tested
Certification checks the dimensional accuracy and finish of the bolt body, the strength of the padlock loop and staple, the smoothness of the sliding mechanism, and crucially, the chemical composition of the alloy used, to confirm it genuinely meets the non-ferrous material specification rather than being a cheaper substitute with a brass-toned finish.
Loop Strength
Strength of the padlock loop and staple.
Sliding Action
Smooth operation of the bolt mechanism.
Alloy Composition
Confirms genuine non-ferrous material, not a toned substitute.
Finish
Dimensional accuracy and surface finish.

Coverage and Exemptions
You need a BIS licence directly from BIS through the standard domestic ISI Mark (Scheme-I) route before selling in the Indian market.
You need certification through the Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS), via an Authorized Indian Representative in India.
Manufacturers producing non-ferrous aldrops for sale in India need this BIS licence in their own name. The order's usual exemptions apply - export-only production, aldrops imported as part of a finished assembly, and small Udyam-registered micro units below specified limits - covered in detail on our main fasteners page.
How to Get Certified
The path you take depends entirely on where your factory is. If you manufacture in India, the process runs through BIS's standard product certification route - sample testing, factory documentation and a factory inspection before the licence is issued. We have laid out every step on our BIS Certification for Indian Manufacturers page.
If your factory sits outside India, you will go through the Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme, which adds an Authorized Indian Representative and typically an overseas factory audit. The full breakdown is on our FMCS guide for foreign manufacturers.
If your foundry casts brass hardware in multiple finishes (polished, antique, satin), the underlying alloy and dimensions matter for certification, not the surface finish - tell us your base alloy spec when you reach out. Contact us.
