BIS Certification for Stainless Steel Sliding Door Bolts (Aldrops)

If you have ever locked a gate or storeroom shutter with a padlock, you have used an aldrop without necessarily knowing the name. It is the sliding bolt fitted with a loop or eye, allowing a padlock shackle to pass through and physically prevent the bolt from sliding open. Unlike an indoor tower bolt, an aldrop's entire purpose is security, which puts a higher demand on the strength of the loop and the body of the fitting - a flimsy aldrop defeats the point of the padlock attached to it.

Stainless steel versions are chosen specifically where the aldrop is exposed outdoors and needs to resist rust over years of weather exposure, which is why this material gets its own dedicated Indian Standard separate from mild steel and non-ferrous aldrops.

Certification checks the dimensions and finish of the bolt body, the strength of the padlock loop and the staple it engages with, the smoothness and durability of the sliding action, and the chemical composition of the stainless steel used, confirming it genuinely qualifies as stainless rather than a plated mild steel substitute.

Manufacturers producing stainless steel aldrops for sale in India need this BIS licence in their own name, regardless of how the finished product is later branded by hardware retailers. The path you take depends entirely on where your factory is.
