BIS Certification for UPVC Profile Windows and Doors in India

BIS for UPVC profile windows and doors is the mandatory conformity assessment process through which the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) verifies that a manufacturer's uPVC profiles comply with IS 17953:2023 - the Indian Standard specification for uncoated unplasticized polyvinyl chloride profiles used in fabricating windows and doors.

Once certified, the manufacturer is granted a BIS ISI Mark licence (CM/L number) under Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. The ISI Mark must appear on every unit of certified product before it can be sold in India.

IS 17953:2023 covers uncoated unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (uPVC) profiles used in the fabrication of windows and doors. The standard applies to both types of profiles:

• Main profiles - structural profiles that bear load in window and door systems (frame profiles, sash profiles, mullions)
• Auxiliary profiles - profiles that provide support but carry less structural load (beading, glazing profiles, co-extruded sealing lips)
• Profiles may have visible and non-visible surfaces - both are covered under the standard's requirements
• Covers profiles intended for use in residential, commercial, and institutional buildings
• Applies to profiles with UV stabilisation treatments for outdoor weather resistance

• Product profile drawings with cross-section dimensions and wall thickness specifications
• Quality control manual and in-process inspection records
• In-house testing equipment list with valid calibration certificates
• Product test reports from a BIS-recognized testing laboratory (IS 17953:2023)
• Authorization letters and BIS-prescribed undertakings

Additional for Foreign Manufacturers (FMCS Route):

• Appointment letter for Authorized Indian Representative (AIR) - mandatory
• AIR's company registration and KYC documents
• Foreign manufacturer's authorization letter to AIR on company letterhead
• Factory location details and overseas BIS inspection readiness
