Standphill India is an ISI Mark consultant based in Greater Noida — the local BIS partner for the electrical, appliance and building-material manufacturers across Noida, Greater Noida, the YEIDA / Jewar belt and the sector industrial sites of Gautam Buddh Nagar. If your product is covered by a Quality Control Order, it must carry the BIS ISI Mark under a Scheme-I licence with a CM/L number before it can be sold in India. We map your product to the correct Indian Standard, prepare your factory for the mandatory BIS inspection, arrange sample testing and secure the licence end to end. This page explains the ISI Mark for Noida manufacturers in plain terms, and why a local consultant makes the process smoother.

Quick Answer

Do products made in Noida need the ISI Mark? Yes — if the product is covered by a Quality Control Order. Electrical accessories and switchgear, wires and cables, appliances, auto components and building materials manufactured in Noida, Greater Noida or YEIDA/Jewar must carry the BIS ISI Mark under a Scheme-I licence with a CM/L number before they can be sold. Unlike CRS, the ISI route requires a factory inspection.

Consultant: Standphill India, based in Greater Noida. Scheme: ISI Mark, Scheme-I (CM/L licence), under a Quality Control Order. Timeline: 6–10 weeks. Factory audit: required. Foreign makers: served through FMCS with an Authorized Indian Representative (AIR).

Make electronic or electrical products? You may need CRS, not the ISI Mark

If your product is an electronic or IT good notified under the Compulsory Registration Scheme — LED lighting, mobile phones, chargers & adapters, power banks, laptops, CCTV, set-top boxes — then you need CRS registration (Standard Mark with an R-Number), not the ISI Mark. These are two entirely separate routes. Call or WhatsApp us and we will confirm the correct one for your product before any work starts.

Why Noida and Greater Noida Manufacturers Need the ISI Mark

Beyond its famous electronics factories, Gautam Buddh Nagar is a heavyweight in traditional manufacturing too. The industrial sectors of Noida, Greater Noida, the Surajpur and Site-V estates, and the growing YEIDA / Jewar belt are packed with makers of electrical accessories and switchgear, wires and cables, home appliances, auto components, and building products. A very large share of these goods sit under a Quality Control Order (QCO) — and once a QCO names a product, the ISI Mark stops being a marketing choice and becomes a legal requirement to manufacture and sell it.

For a Noida manufacturer, the consequence of a QCO is direct: without a valid ISI Mark licence, producing, storing or selling that product is an offence under the BIS Act, and the goods cannot be supplied to dealers, government tenders or large buyers. Because Standphill India is based right here in Greater Noida, we support these manufacturers through the part of the process they worry about most — the BIS factory inspection — as a local partner who can be on-site rather than a distant advisor working over email.

What Is the BIS ISI Mark, and What Is a CM/L Licence?

The ISI Mark is granted under the BIS Scheme-I (product certification) and is the oldest and most recognised quality mark in India. It is made mandatory for a given product by a Quality Control Order issued by the relevant line ministry — for example the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) for building materials, or the Ministry of Power for many electrical products. When a manufacturer is granted certification, BIS issues a CM/L (Certification Marks Licence) number, and the ISI Mark bearing the Indian Standard number is then stamped on every unit produced.

The defining feature of the ISI Mark is the factory inspection. Before granting the licence, a BIS officer visits the factory to verify that the manufacturing process, the in-house testing equipment and the quality-control system can consistently produce goods that meet the Indian Standard. Samples are drawn during that visit and tested independently. This is a more involved route than the electronics-focused CRS — and it is exactly why factory preparation is the heart of an ISI project.

ISI Mark vs CRS Registration - Which Route Is Yours?

This is the single most important decision at the start of any BIS project in Noida, and getting it wrong wastes weeks. The two schemes are entirely separate:

  • ISI Mark (Scheme-I) — for electrical, appliance and building-material products under a Quality Control Order. It has a factory inspection, grants a CM/L licence number, and is valid for a longer term with renewal.
  • CRS (Compulsory Registration Scheme) — for electronics and IT goods notified by MeitY. It has no factory inspection, grants a Standard Mark with an R-Number, and is valid for two years.

A rough rule of thumb: if the product is essentially an electronic or IT device, it is usually CRS; if it is an electrical fitting, a household appliance or a building material, it is usually the ISI Mark. But there are overlaps and exceptions, so we always confirm your product against the official notified lists first. If your product is electronics, see our companion guide to the CRS registration consultant service in Noida.

Which Noida-Made Products Need the ISI Mark?

These are the product families covered by Quality Control Orders that manufacturers across Noida, Greater Noida and YEIDA/Jewar most commonly certify under the ISI Mark. Each product is licensed against its own Indian Standard:

Product Family (made in the Noida belt)ISI Coverage
Electrical accessories & switchgear — switches, sockets, plugs, MCBsISI / QCO
Wires & cables — PVC-insulated cables, flexible cordsISI / QCO
Household appliances — water heaters, room heaters, electric irons, immersion heatersISI / QCO
Auto components covered by QCOsISI / QCO
Building materials — cement, TMT steel bars, fibre cement flat sheets, uPVC profilesISI / QCO
Steel, pipes & fittings — structural steel, PVC pipes, fastenersISI / QCO
Safety & consumer goods — helmets, footwear, utensils, toysISI / QCO

Not sure whether your product falls under a Quality Control Order yet? New QCOs are notified regularly. Send us the product and we will confirm its status against the current QCO list — and, if a QCO is imminent, help you get certified ahead of the deadline.

The ISI Mark Process and BIS Factory Inspection for Noida Manufacturers

The ISI Mark process is built around the factory. The critical path is correct standard mapping, then getting the factory and its in-house lab inspection-ready, then the BIS inspection and sample testing, then the grant of the CM/L licence.

Confirm the IS number and applicable QCO
2

We handle every step from our Greater Noida office: confirming the Indian Standard and Quality Control Order, auditing your factory against the standard's requirements, helping you set up or upgrade the in-house testing facility the standard demands, preparing the full application and documentation, being present for the BIS inspection, and answering every query so the CM/L licence is granted without avoidable rounds. You can read the national picture in our guide to ISI Mark certification.

Why a Local Noida ISI Consultant Makes the Inspection Smoother

On-Site for the Inspection

The factory audit is where ISI projects succeed or stall; being based in Greater Noida means we can be physically present at your plant to prepare and support it.

Factory-Readiness Know-How

We know what BIS officers look for in NCR factories and help you set up the process controls and in-house lab the standard requires before the visit.

Same-Region Turnaround

Documents, samples and corrections move quickly when your consultant is in the same industrial belt as your factory.

Full-Range Licensing

Many Noida makers produce several QCO-covered items; we plan the licences together and sequence the inspections efficiently.

ISI Mark for Foreign Manufacturers (FMCS)

Foreign manufacturers whose products are sold in the Noida market can also obtain the ISI Mark, through the Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS). FMCS follows the same Scheme-I logic — including an inspection of the overseas factory — and requires the appointment of an Authorized Indian Representative (AIR) resident in India who holds the licence relationship with BIS. Standphill India, based in Greater Noida, manages FMCS applications end to end and acts as AIR for overseas manufacturers — read more about the route for foreign manufacturers.

Frequently Asked Questions - ISI Mark Certification in Noida

If you manufacture an electrical product, an appliance, a building material or another product covered by a Quality Control Order in Noida, Greater Noida or the YEIDA/Jewar belt - such as switchgear, wires and cables, water heaters, cement, steel or footwear - it must carry the BIS ISI Mark under a Scheme-I licence before it can be sold. An ISI Mark consultant maps your product to the correct Indian Standard and Quality Control Order, prepares your factory for the mandatory BIS inspection, arranges sample testing and files the CM/L application, which is why manufacturers across the Noida industrial belt use Standphill India, headquartered nearby in Greater Noida.
Yes. Unlike CRS, the ISI Mark (Scheme-I) always requires a BIS factory inspection. A BIS officer visits your Noida factory to verify the manufacturing process, the in-house testing facilities and the quality-control system, and draws samples for independent testing. The licence with your CM/L number is granted only after both the inspection and the sample testing are satisfactory - which is exactly why factory preparation is the most important part of the project.
Products covered by a Quality Control Order need the ISI Mark. In the Noida, Greater Noida and YEIDA/Jewar belt this commonly includes electrical accessories and switchgear, wires and cables, household appliances, auto components, and building materials such as cement, steel/TMT, fibre cement sheets and uPVC products. Each product is licensed against its own Indian Standard.
An ISI Mark project typically runs six to ten weeks, because it involves both a factory inspection and sample testing, unlike the faster CRS route. The cost depends on the product, the number of varieties and the Indian Standard, and includes the BIS application and licence fees, the factory-inspection charges and the laboratory testing fee. Standphill India provides an itemised written estimate once we have confirmed your product, standard and factory details.
If your product is an electronic or IT good notified under the Compulsory Registration Scheme - such as LED lighting, mobile phones, power adapters, power banks, laptops or CCTV - you need CRS registration (Standard Mark with an R-Number), not the ISI Mark. The two are entirely different routes. Call or WhatsApp us on +91-9667674225, or visit our CRS registration page, and we will confirm the correct scheme for your exact product before any work begins.
Yes. A foreign manufacturer obtains the ISI Mark through the Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS), which includes an inspection of the overseas factory and the appointment of an Authorized Indian Representative (AIR) resident in India. Standphill India, based in Greater Noida, manages FMCS applications end to end and acts as AIR for overseas manufacturers supplying the Indian market.
