BEE Certification for Ceiling Fans

The humble ceiling fan is one of the most-used appliances in India, running for long hours across hundreds of millions of homes - so even a small efficiency gain per fan adds up to enormous national savings. That is why electric ceiling fans have long been a mandatory BEE star-labelled category. The arrival of efficient BLDC (brushless DC) motor fans, which can deliver the same airflow at a fraction of the wattage of a conventional induction fan, has made the star rating a genuine point of competition on the shelf.

A ceiling fan's star rating is based on its service value - essentially how much air it delivers for each watt of power it draws - measured and computed under the BEE Standards & Labelling programme. A fan that pushes more air using less electricity earns a higher star band. Because a conventional fan and a BLDC fan can deliver similar comfort while consuming very different amounts of power, the star label is the clearest way for buyers to tell an efficient fan from a thirsty one, and increasingly a deciding factor at the point of sale.

For 2026, BEE issued a revised ceiling-fan star table valid from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2028, and crucially, all earlier ceiling-fan labels expired on 31 December 2025. Every fan model - conventional or BLDC - must be aligned to the new table to remain on the market, either through the continuation route for existing approvals or fresh registration. What makes 2026 a hard deadline rather than a routine update is that BEE's earlier ceiling-fan labels expired on 31 December 2025, and the revised table runs from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2028. A fan model that is not re-aligned to the new table cannot legally carry a star claim or be sold - so re-registration is not optional housekeeping, it is the difference between staying on the shelf and being pulled from it.
