BIS Certification for Ring Type Needle Bearings IS 4215:1983

Needle bearings are a type of roller bearing that use long, thin cylindrical rollers - called "needles" - whose length is several times their diameter. This slim design lets them carry surprisingly high radial loads while taking up very little space in the radial direction. A "ring type" needle bearing has its needles housed in an outer ring with a cage, ready to run directly on a hardened shaft.

Because they are so compact for the load they handle, needle bearings are the go-to choice in tight, high-load assemblies - automotive transmissions, universal joints, two-wheeler engines, gear pumps, and compressors. They are produced and imported in large volumes, which is why they are covered under the Bearings (Quality Control) Order, 2025 and now require the BIS ISI Mark under IS 4215:1983.
