BIS Certification for Insect Killers - IS 302 (Part 1): 2024

Insect Killers, also known as bug zappers, mosquito killers, pest control appliances, and electric insect traps, are widely used in homes, offices, hotels, restaurants, and warehouses to eliminate insects safely.

Due to their electric heating elements, UV lamps, and high-voltage grids, these devices pose risks such as electric shocks, overheating, and fire hazards if not manufactured to strict safety standards.

To ensure consumer safety and regulate imports, the Government of India has included Insect Killers under the Safety of Household, Commercial, and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025 (QCO 2025).

From 19th March 2026, it is mandatory for all Insect Killers manufactured, sold, or imported in India to carry BIS Certification (ISI Mark).

Why BIS Certification for Insect Killers is Mandatory

BIS certification ensures that every insect killer available in the Indian market is safe, durable, and reliable.

Key reasons for mandatory certification:

1. ) Consumer Protection – Prevents electrical shocks, fire hazards, and product failures.

2. )  Legal Requirement – Selling uncertified insect killers will be illegal under QCO 2025.

3. )  Customs Clearance – Imports without BIS certification will be rejected at ports.

4. )  Standardization – Brings uniform quality across Indian and imported products.

5. )  Consumer Trust – ISI-marked appliances build greater credibility in the market.

BIS Certification for Insect Killers under QCO 2025 ensures compliance with IS 302 (Part 1): 2024. From March 19, 2026, uncertified insect killers cannot be manufactured, imported, or sold in India.
