BIS Certification for Massage Appliances – IS 302 (Part 1): 2024

Published Date: 19th August 2025

Applicable Standard: IS 302 (Part 1): 2024 – Household and Similar Electrical Appliances – Safety – General Requirements

Effective Date: 19th March 2026 (General), 19th June 2026 (Small Enterprises), 19th September 2026 (Micro Enterprises)

Massage Appliances (such as handheld massagers, electric massage chairs, massage pillows, foot massagers, and body relaxers) are increasingly popular in homes, gyms, spas, and wellness centers.

However, since these appliances run on electric power and directly interact with the human body, risks like electric shock, overheating, mechanical failure, or fire hazards are high if safety standards are not followed.

To regulate this sector, the Government of India has mandated BIS Certification for Massage Appliances under the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025 (QCO 2025).

From 19th March 2026, no Massage Appliance can be manufactured, imported, or sold in India without BIS Certification (ISI Mark).

Why BIS Certification is Mandatory for Massage Appliances

1. ) Safety of Consumers – Prevents accidents like shocks, burns, and overheating.

2. ) Legal Requirement – Compulsory under QCO 2025 to sell in India.

3. ) Customs Clearance – Non-ISI marked imports will be rejected at ports.

4. ) Consumer Confidence – ISI logo builds brand reliability.

5. ) Standardized Quality – Ensures only safe & high-quality products reach users.

BIS Certification for Massage Appliances under QCO 2025 ensures compliance with IS 302 (Part 1): 2024. From March 19, 2026, uncertified massage devices cannot be sold, imported, or distributed in India.
