BIS Certification for Electric Ice-Cream Machines – IS 302 (Part 1): 2024


Electric Ice-Cream Machines are increasingly used in households, restaurants, cafés, and commercial kitchens for quick and efficient ice-cream preparation. To ensure consumer safety and product reliability, the Government of India has made BIS Certification mandatory for Electric Ice-Cream Machines under the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025 (QCO 2025).


From 19th March 2026, no manufacturer, importer, or seller can sell Electric Ice-Cream Machines in India without the ISI Mark, issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).


Applicable Standard for Electric Ice-Cream Machines


1. ) IS 302 (Part 1): 2024 / IEC 60335-1:2020

Household and Similar Electrical Appliances – Safety – Part 1: General Requirements


This standard covers general safety, mechanical strength, electrical performance, fire hazards, insulation resistance, and durability of Electric Ice-Cream Machines, including those designed for refrigerators and freezers.

I. ) General Manufacturers – 19th March 2026


II. ) Small Enterprises – 19th June 2026


III. ) Micro Enterprises – 19th September 2026


BIS Certification Scheme Applicable


1. ) Scheme-I (ISI Mark License) under BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.


2. ) Products must undergo factory audit, sample testing, and compliance verification before the license is issued.


Key Testing Requirements


Electric Ice-Cream Machines must undergo multiple safety and performance tests under IS 302 Part 1:2024, such as:


1. ) Electrical Safety Tests – Insulation resistance, dielectric strength, earthing resistance.


2. ) Mechanical Safety Tests – Durability of blades, moving parts, and motor strength.


3. ) Thermal Safety Tests – Protection against overheating, fire hazards.


4. ) Performance Tests – Energy efficiency, continuous operation testing, freezing capability.

Exemptions Under QCO 2025


1. ) Goods manufactured only for export.


2. ) 200 units per year imported for R&D purposes (cannot be sold commercially).


3. ) Units manufactured or imported before the implementation date, which can be sold for six months grace period after declaration to BIS
